Pachuco

Julian Merino, "El Pachuco," con los vatos y pachucas del Downey gang. Watcha. Mentor LA Partner Schools invited cast and crew of Zoot Suit (students from West Adams Preparatory High School) to participate at their star-studded gala in April, 2009. Other performers/presenters included: Tom Cruise, Will I.M. and Jack Black. The zoot suiters danced to "Pachuco" and "Sing, Sing, Sing," and were the hit of the night.

Xavier's Painting

From rural Ecuador to urban South Central Los Angeles we celebrate, encourage, and inspire the creativity of children and youth. Art, music, poetry, and dance projects have been just some of the vehicles to motivate involvement, productivity, discipline, teamwork, and individual achievement. Above, 15-year-old Xavier shows off his painting. He hung out on the periphery of this mural project, but with very little coaxing became involved in all aspects and pulled in several of his teenage friends. Xavier became our DJ and cameraman for other presentations.

Wladimir's Poetry

Fundación Galo Plaza Lasso

The Mural Project - Hacienda Zuleta, Ecuador - Curso del Verano 2008. Children covered the walls in the center of town with their colorful, original artwork on the theme: Zuleta Bello Rincón.

Danza en las Escuelas

Third through sixth grade children in two elementary schools in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras learned many styles of dance, including salsa and merengue partnership! The program also invited older students to take part in after-school advanced and intermediate classes.

NDI Dance-a-thon

Pictured above, Dr. Jenny returns from Argentina to attend NDI's Dance-a-thon (DAT) 2006. Inspired by Jaques d'Amboise historic Appalachian Trail hike, DAT was founded by Seham and John Holcomb in 2000 as an alumni fundraising event for National Dance Institute in NYC.
